... leadership in separations technology

One of the first commercially available  spherical silicas

Partisphere is manufactured by Whatman International Ltd. and is only available in the Whatman Void Sealing (WVS) cartridge system. If a void eventually occurs at the top of the column bed, a simple tightening of the locking head will move the cone-sealing cylinder and frit downwards until it creates the zero-void configuration of the original cartridge. Large knurled end fittings (see image below) allow easy hand-tightening of the system.

On 29th February 2012, Hichrom acquired the Partisil & Partisphere HPLC column ranges from Whatman, a division of GE Healthcare (see announcement)

PartiSphere C8 is recommended for ion pair chromatography. This is an end-capped monomeric phase with a 6% carbon load. Provides high efficiency and rapid mass transfer while maintaining excellent peak shape and stability over a range of aqueous mobile phase compositions.

PartiSphere C18 is designed for selectivity of pharmaceuticals, natural products, food, biologicals, and environmental pollutants. This is a polymeric phase with a 10% carbon load. End-capped for deactivation of silanols to minimize need for ion suppression or pairing agents.

PartiSphere PAC is the medium of choice for carbohydrate separations. This is a polar amino-cyano bonded phase with secondary amine groups for good thermal and chemical stability. Selectivity and rapid equilibrium allow separation mechanisms such as adsorption, reversed phase and weak anion exchange to be used. Extremely fast equilibrium across entire range of solvents from heptane to water.

PartiSphere SAX is designed for the separation of nucleic acids, organic acids and inorganic anions, and is particularly effective for the separation of nucleotides. This is a strong anion exchanger based on quaternary ammonium groups (-NR3+). Stable from pH 1.5 to pH 7.5 when used with a Solvecon solvent conditioning column. Designed to obtain high anion exchange efficiencies and resolution.

PartiSphere SCX is designed for the separation of nucleic acids, amino acids, polyamines, drugs and other cationic species. This is a strong cation exchanger based on aromatic benzene sulfonic acid groups. Stable from pH 1.5 to pH 7.0 when used with a Solvecon solvent conditioning column. Uses chemically and thermally stable Si-O-Si-C bonding.

PartiSphere RTF (Reduced Tailing Factor) HPLC columns are base-deactivated columns. They employ a unique proprietary process that effectively deactivates the secondary chromatographic effect due to residual silanols. In addition, these columns are extremely stable and can be used from pH 2 to pH 8 with no loss in performance. Excellent for separation of basic compounds without the need for amine-modified mobile phases.

Features and Benefits
All PartiSphere columns are guaranteed to perform reproducibly every time, thanks to multiple quality control tests for both primary and secondary separation mechanisms.
Polished internal column walls ensure packing symmetries and efficiencies.
